This Week’s Special: Pair of 19th Century Carved Walnut Renaissance Revival Chairs. Introduced in the early 1850s as an alternative to the flowery Rococo Revival, Renaissance Revival incorporated elements from virtually all European furniture periods from the 1400s to the 1800s. The substantial block form of this mid to late 19th century Revival style acted as a counterbalance to the almost feminine delicacy of early 1800s furniture design.
The carved chair backs feature coats with recognizable neo Renaissance heraldic motifs. A classic token of rebirth and renewal, the North Wind figure on the crest rails proclaims the legitimacy and longevity of the family line. Ecclesiastic symbols of beehives, wings and radial suns convey dedication to the church and virtuous industry. The lions and knights depict chivalry, while the Prince of Wales feathers represent loyalty to the state. Measuring 46″ high, 26″ wide, and 24″ deep, each chair is crowned with menacing lion finals and joined by wide heavily molded bridges.
Originally priced at $1250, this pair is available for $995 this week only. Free delivery to anywhere within 50 miles of downtown Ypsilanti!
